Met Liz (childhood in England, now Queensland, solo thru-hiker, 59) this morning. She has been signing the shelter registers ahead of us for weeks, so it was fun to catch up and meet her. She's been on the same schedule as Guy (Australian, 35, solo thru-hiker). We didn't meet Guy, and he's staying in Denmark for a couple days, so we won't get the chance. We've heard from others that he's a very nice fellow, so our loss.
Arrived in the town of Denmark in time for grocery shopping, leisurely roasted chicken and salad. Walked out of town an hour before sunset and found an exceptional camping pitch on the local horse race track. The center of the oval is a grass field set up with recreational horse jumping equipment. Very low key - no stands and just one modest shed building.
At Denmark the Bibb Track crosses 4 km of inlet. The recommended method is to hire a boat ride (quite expensive). We will instead walk around the inlet. The first ~5 miles is on nature trail near the water, which will be nice. Then a long road section, which we will possibly try to hitch.
Weather today was great. Flowers still good. Scenery fine but not truly exceptional. More Albatrosses. We are happy and healthy and well fed.
