Started day at 3100' and crossed Mica Mountain at 8666'. There were some descents mixed in so total gain was higher. 6000' of gain is a good solid day. Fortunately it was cooler and cloudy. A big day like this would not be viable in heat.
Saw two big honking Gila Monsters today. (Note: the second picture is not of a Gila Monster.) And yesterday a rattlesnake told us in no uncertain terms that he didn't want us to sit down in his patch of shade. If you've heard an unexpected rattler at close range you know what it does to your adrenaline. If you haven't had the pleasure, trust me that the response is innate, immediate, and intense.
We spent the whole day in Saguaro NP. Excellent trail, scenery, and diversity. Nice chats with three rangers on backcountry patrol, and also with a trail crew.
Cool and a bit drizzly as I type. We're happy, healthy, and ready for sleep

Wow to both the gila monster and the rattlesnake. Keep safe!
We are happily waiting for rain to come our way. We may get occasional showers every day for the next week.
Cybil says Hi and so do I.
XOXO - Linda
