May 30 - dull but pleasant

Most of the day was through rolling agricultural fields. Wheat, barley, rye, rapeseed, beets, potatoes. Also cows, chickens, a few goats and sheep, and one barnyard pig. Pleasing but not very exciting.

Great bakery for brunch: smoked salmon, avocado and poached egg on a croissant. And another bakery for early supper (quiche, fougasse with cheese and sausage, pizza toppings on baguette), hosted by a very cheerful and helpful Vietnamese woman. She went to the little shop next door to get milk for my coffee.

Jim has spent four hours over the past four days trying to repair a broken part on his pack's belt buckle; the buckle still works, but is at risk of future failure, so he's trying to patch it.

Today was the first day over 70, getting up to 79. Too warm for this spring chicken. It was five degrees warmer in Rouen (2 days behind us), and five degrees cooler in Honfleur (2 days ahead of us), so we're walking in the right direction.

We are happy and healthy and camped in a small stand of oaks and chestnut trees.
