Grand view from camp of the great expanse of red rock country. We can see Navajo Mountain and the south end of the Kaiparowits Plateau.
I love this part of the world.
One of the best campsites of the trip, maybe the best. But too cold and windy to be outside the tent for long.
Very light snow flurries several times during the day. Mostly sunny and pretty cool, maybe 40-45. It will be cold tonight, expecting ice in the water bottles tomorrow.
Excellent day, easy walking, not much elevation change, which was good because we both felt the effects of yesterday's long hike with 5k+ down and 6k+ up.
Great scenery of Spruce/Ponderosa/Aspen forests with nice meadows. Very welcoming and comfortable. Williamson's Sapsucker (pair) and American Three-toed Woodpecker were new for the trip. Copulating Flickers confirm that spring must be coming soon. Hermit Thrushes singing their ethereal songs.
We are happy, healthy and snug in our warm little nest, sheltered by trees but listening to the howling winds.
Photo of Jim on a fire tower; view of woods, but no canyon view from there.
