Camped at 763.9, set up during a little hail squall.
Woke up this morning to a very light snow cover. Cool all day. 5-20 minutes of calm sun followed by 5-20 minutes of breezy snow flurries, flip flopping between the two all day long. Never enough snow to accumulate on the ground.
First half of the day was beautiful, a continuation of Spruce/Ponderosa/Aspen with great meadows and remnant snowfields in the deep shadows. Second half of the day was 11 miles through a fire zone that burned so hot it killed every tree and burned all the organic matter out of the soil - undoubtedly the result of a hundred years of fire suppression. Not like the mosaic fire zones I'm used to.
Saw our first Dusky Grouse of the trip early this morning.
Only 37 miles to go. Less than two days at our current pace. Woo hoo. Good food and cotton sheets await!
We are healthy, happy, and yet again snugly tucked into our little tent. Not much sit-around-outdoor weather! It's darn chilly outside.
