We're happy and healthy and camped at a five star site that James found by scouting around Black Rock, a small promontory between a 1 mile quiet shingle beach to the north and a huge expanse of tidal sand flats on the south side — full of holiday merry-makers swimming, biking on the sand flats, playing frisbee, launching small rafts, floating around in ginormous inflated flamingos.
We have a good life. It's easy to be happy when it's sunny and 65. Tomorrow, however, we are expecting our first prolonged rainstorm of the trip, so our string of 16.5 walking days with a total of just a few hours of rain may be coming to an end.
An odd thing about this route: there are NO picnic shelters. On the Tokai in Japan we passed perhaps 5-10 shelters every day, and we could always find covered places at the plethora of shrines and temples. On this route not a single one so far; even the churches haven't had benches in entry porticos.
