June 9 - boules, lighthouses, and history

We see people playing Boules nearly every day, usually on groomed boules courts scattered around in parks. Today two couples were playing on the track behind their house, with the balls rolling down the track. I said c'est difficil, and the woman laughed and exclaimed HORRIBLE! The four of them laughed, and seemed to be enjoying themselves even though the boules conditions were horrible.

It was a real treat to climb to the top of the 75 meter lighthouse at Barfleur: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatteville_Lighthouse

We enjoyed coffee at the Bar/Tabac in Barfleur, where the locals were gathered for their morning coffee or beer. This bar/tabac sells CBD also, which is not true of all of them. On the other hand, i'm pretty sure that all of them stay in business because they have kiosks for playing the lottery and betting on sports, both of which are extremely popular. At the bar this morning there was a lot of gaming and chattering amongst the clientele.

It is always amusing to read the annotated history of villages we pass through. Take a look at the Wikipedia page for Barfleur and note some of the important events in the past thousand years.

We are happy and healthy after a great day of walking with excellent weather, easy, hiking, and lots of diverse attractions. We are again camped at a nice site on the dune next to the sea.
