March 2 - overcoming minor adversity

Jim's pad had a tiny slow leak last night. Ugh, that's really unpleasant. But we stopped this morning at a creek emptying on to the beach, where there was a big calm pool of clear water, so he could submerge the pad and locate the leak. Our thermarest patches were so old that apparently the adhesive was past its use-by date. Fortunately we had a half dozen of those patches, including some of a younger vintage, that still function, so all is well. Note to self, and others, if your thermarest patch kit is over a couple years old, toss it and replace with a fresh kit.

Two Red Kites!

The architecture so far this trip has been a total hodgepodge. Every coastal town has been a variation of the mish-mash in this photo. Maybe this is the look you get when there is no zoning or design guidance.

Today was all easy walking, primarily on rural roads and farm tracks. 3000-3500 feet of gain, so plenty of up and down, but no thrashing or tough footing.

We are happy and healthy and tucked into a very private quiet pine plantation.
