March 23 - the rain gods were good to us

Rain threatened through the day, and we could see it raining to the east or west of us, but it did not start raining on us until we were nearly to our overnight apartment rental. It has been raining steadily for the last couple of hours.

Pizza for lunch. Hamburger for dinner. And some grocery rations to get us through the next 24 miles, where there are no reliable food sources. Essentially all services geared to the July-August holiday merry-makers are shut for the fall/winter/spring season, but google map "hours" info has no clue, so we've learned that we can't rely on one-off bars and cafes and grocery stores; the towns are reliable, and the next town is 24 miles.

We had a clever route east from Gijón, to get us through a very industrial area with acres of coal moving around on conveyor belts and a large cement factory. Once we got past that it was all good coastal path to Luanco, where we are spending the night.

We have seen several sculptures of women mending/making fishing nets, like the one in this photo of Jim eating his pastry.

We are happy and healthy, and Amy is happy to be in a dry spacious comfortable apartment on a wet, rainy night.
