Aug 14 - RAIN, and a couple of odd ducks

The forecast was for RAIN, but we carried on anyway. We did take a shortcut near the end to avoid the summit of Pen-y-Ghent, due to socked in rainy conditions and lightning risk in the forecast. Today was our first day with real rain. Our weather app said we had 1.5".

We dropped into the village of Horton in Ribblesdale, where the church ladies leave tea makings and cookies available for soggy hikers like us, and spent an hour drinking tea and drying our brains. Then walked down the street to the Holme Farm campsite, a modest little place for tents and camper vans, no big RVs. The 83 year old gentleman who has run the place since 1953 was out of Dr Seuss. He and his 76 year old buddy are ensconced in the Reception Cave, and it looks like they haven't moved in the 50 years since they opened this campsite. They rattled on with stories which we couldn't understand due the the thick Yorkshire accents.

We are happy and healthy and a bit damp, but the forecast for tomorrow is good and that should make for easier walking.
