Aug 16 - Owls!

A pair of Short-eared Owls hunting over the moors; we watched for 20 minutes. A half mile later we saw the same pair again or possibly even a second pair. Wowee! That was really exciting.

Dry weather and feet until rain started at 3:00. We didn't think it would really rain, so we just deployed, the umbrellas, and not the rain gear. By the time we reached the Tan Hill Inn we had soggy feet and damp clothes.

Tan Hill Inn is the highest altitude Inn/Pub in England, despite the same claim made by the Cat and Fiddle earlier in the hike. A delightful 17th century Inn in a vast expanse of moorland. Desolate and beautiful. We ate a fine meal and dried ourselves by the fire. We set up our tent in a camping field next to the Inn, and used the shower they provide for people like us.

We are happy and healthy, clean, well fed, and worried about midges, which appeared at our afternoon snack spot and again while we set up the tent.
