April 5 - first Americans

While on the Blavet Canal path, we met the seventy-something gentleman who has lived his entire life in the house in the photo below and chatted with him briefly. He told us that we were the first Americans he had ever met on the path, which he walks a couple times every day with his dog. Most foreign randonneurs, he said, are English or German. That's consistent with our experience; Americans hiking in Europe and Britain usually stick to a half dozen famous trails, ignoring tens of thousands of miles of great paths.

We thought today would be our first rain–free day, but true to form it rained lightly for a couple of hours this afternoon.

We are spending the night in a terrific bed-and-breakfast. We are happy and healthy with clean bodies and clean clothes.
