March 2 - more good weather and more soft sand

Perfect weather again. 60ish. 2 minutes of light rain after we finished dinner and were snug in the tent.

Camped at mile 91 in dunes in earshot of the sound of the surf. Jim ties sticks to the tent strings, then buries the sticks to hold out our fly. Tent stakes don't work in sand.

18 miles today. About 12 of those miles were in soft sand trail; not the easiest walking surface. Yesterday was almost entirely soft sand trail, and the three days before that were on soft sand beach. Most of the 18 were right next to the sea and we continue to find it satisfying to walk next to the sea.

Iberian Grey Shrike today and a noisy flock of Common Waxbills were unexpected treats.

Lunch at a tiny cafe, served by three joyous exuberant old ladies. The town was about 10% occupied, as this is a beach-town coast, and this is not the season.

I (Amy) deliberately popped the blister that was growing at the tip of my second toe. A very strange place for it to have formed.

We are happy and healthy, and sleeping well in our little nest. It's 7:28pm and Jim fell asleep as I type this. Alarm is set for 0600.
