March 8 - around the bend

I asked Jim what he liked today. "It's not very complex. It's pretty repetitive. But that's what I like. Just walking along the coast."

We passed Cape Vicente this morning and everything changed. The west facing coast had constant surf crashing straight into the land. Around one small bend and it's all calm. Like a completely different ocean.

We stopped in the funky little surfer town of Sagres for a chicken melt sandwich at the aptly named "Hangout". The place could have been in Santa Cruz back in the '60's. The image below is from a 50 foot long mural with 20 birds (10 blue songbirds and 10 white origami songbirds). There was an interesting bird festival focus of town with at least three other large bird murals.

We are happy and healthy and camped at mile 191 in a beautiful little patch of grass, 80 feet back from the 80 foot cliff that drops into the calm sea.
